When RV camping with my son, Rich, and Jen, we often stay at Harvest Hosts on our way to various destinations. One of our most memorable stops was recently at Brisinger Farm in Coatsville, PA. Our son, Jason, his wife, Robin, and granddaughter, Zoe, joined us on this trip. Upon arriving, a frisky goat named Jet bounded toward us, giving us an energetic welcome. Several of his friends watched us with curiosity from a distance. It didn't take us long to realize we had stepped into the whimsical world where goats rule, and we were merely guests on their playground.
After setting up camp, Jet made himself comfortable, jumping onto Jen's lap as if she were his personal seat. Being a goat-lover, Jen eagerly embraced the quirks and charm of this delightful creature. Before long, Jet's furry friends, Phoenix and Mow, joined us, vying for our attention, turning our laps into makeshift trampolines and nuzzling against us like we were long-lost friends. It was amazing to see how quickly we all became captivated by the playful antics of these fun-loving goats.
Our plans for a peaceful evening quickly turned into a lively goat party, especially since Jen had brought plenty of goat snacks for such an occasion. When the party ended, we all went to bed, but Jet decided to spend the night curled up on Jen's chair. Come sunrise, a rooster crowed in the distance as Jet bleated at the camper door, hoping that Jen would let him in. Even though we hadn't yet wiped the sleep from our eyes, it was truly amusing and heartwarming.
Jen got out the breakfast cereal. The Apple Bits were a huge hit, and soon the bleating of goat music filled the air. The goats frolicked around her with delight, savoring every tasty bit she offered. All of us joined in, feeling their gentle nibbles as we held out our hands.
When visiting the Brisinger Farm, be prepared for a delightful stay! The farm is surrounded by acres of woods and a nearby creek, creating the perfect backdrop for your escape! The farm opened as a Harvest Host site just this spring and has already hosted several campers each week. Owners Tom Marsh and his wife LeeAnn Lash are thrilled to share their cherished farm with travelers. "We want to spread our love for animals and our beautiful open space while earning a little extra income. And it's been wonderful meeting campers from all over. We've even hosted guests from Germany," Tom shared.
The farm is a family affair. Their kids, Lillia and Hunter, pitch in with daily chores and are bursting with pride when showing off their animal friends. Right off, they introduced us to their baby kittens. Although the energetic goats insist on being the farm's welcoming committee, the family also pampers a menagerie of rare and exotic creatures, including sheep, a potbelly pig, golden pheasants, curly-haired pigeons, an elegant white peacock, lop-eared rabbits, and adorable button quails. So if you visit, take time to tour all the pens, coops, cages, hutches, and other cozy living facilities. And be prepared to be accompanied by an entourage of goats as they leap around in a quest for affection.
Although our visit was short, it was packed with interaction and excitement! The goats were definitely the highlight of our stay!
