Ever since I traveled through Winona while on a business trip many years ago, I wanted to take Carol there for a more in depth visit. After all, Winona is a town sitting on an island in the Mississippi River and worthy of further investigation. In September 2013, we spent a night there, staying at the AmericInn in a room with a balcony and river view. It was great just hanging out that evening, drinking wine and eating cheese and crusty bread while watching the barge traffic til dark. We did do a bit of a walkabout when we first arrived that afternoon, including a drink at Betty Jo Byoloski’s, a unique bar in the downtown area. I’m so glad we included Winona in our planning for our Wisconsin Martino Quest adventure.
