Okay, so fishing was absolutely insane! I still can't quite believe what happened out on the water. We went out with Capt. Jonathan from Fathom Fishing Charters in Rincon, Puerto Rico, and it was hands down one of the best fishing trip I've ever been on. Seriously, if you're ever in that area and thinking about doing some fishing, you HAVE to book a trip with him. You won't regret it.
From the moment we left the harbor, you could just feel the anticipation in the air. The ocean was a little choppy, and Jen, who came with me, was a little concerned about the rough waters. She gets seasick pretty easily, and I was a little worried she wouldn't enjoy the trip. But Captain Jonathan assured us he knew some spots where it may be calmer, and he was right. He navigated us expertly through the waves, and soon enough, we were in relatively smoother waters. Still about 3 foot waves.
And then the action started. Oh. My. Goodness. The blackfin tuna were everywhere! It was like they were just waiting for us. We hadn't even been fishing for more than ten minutes when the first rod bent over. I grabbed it, and the fight was on! These tuna are incredibly strong for their size, and it was a real battle to reel them in. But finally, after a good struggle, I landed a beautiful blackfin.
And that was just the beginning. For the next TWO HOURS, it was non-stop fishing action. I'm not exaggerating when I say that as soon as one line was put back in the water, another one would get hit. Many times there were several rods with fish on them at a time. It was unbelievable. We were reeling in fish left and right. Jen even got in on the action, and despite her initial concerns about the rough water, she was having a blast. She managed to land a several tuna herself, and the smile on her face was priceless.
Capt. Jonathan was a total pro. He knew exactly where to go to find the fish, and he kept us supplied with the right tackle. He was also incredibly helpful, offering tips and advice on how to reel in the tuna. He was constantly moving around the boat, making sure everyone was having a good time and catching fish. You can tell he really loves what he does, and his enthusiasm is infectious.
By the end of the two hours, we had caught 49 blackfin tuna! I still can't believe it. I've been on fishing trips before where we were lucky to catch a handful of fish, but this was something else entirely. It was a truly unforgettable experience.
Even though the waters were a little rough, it was well worth it. The thrill of catching so many fish, the beautiful scenery, and the expertise of Capt. Jonathan made it a day to remember. Jen even said it was one of the best days she's had in a long time, despite her initial worries.
